One of my favorite lines from a movie comes right at the end of This Is Spinal Tap, when the drummer states his philosophy on life and says stoically, “Have a good time, ALL the time.” This could possibly be the best way to sum up my outlook on life as well…but in a little different way than what the Spinal Tap drummer meant! What it means to me is don’t take life too seriously, and never forget to have fun and indulge in all the joys that life offers.
AKHIA is the perfect place to work for someone with that philosophy. Although everyone here takes their job and their work very seriously, we also know how to regularly mix in some fun and indulgence (the kitchen is the most popular place in our office!).
I stumbled upon a great nugget of wisdom in Regina Brett’s column in The Plain Dealer. She was talking about a man she knows who lives by the “Get To” philosophy. It’s an attitude of being grateful for getting to do even the little things in life, such as: “I Get To go grocery shopping today.” “I Get To go to work this morning.” These are typical things that a lot of people might normally grumble about having to do, but we should really be thankful that we 1.) Have money and the physical ability to go grocery shopping, and 2.) That we actually have a job to go to, when many people have been laid off or can’t find a job for one reason or another. When you think about it, there are really SO MANY things we “Get To” do that we take for granted and shouldn’t.
