On March 11, three local marketing shops went to battle at the inaugural AKHIA Physical Challenge. From limbo to layups, the contenders participated in a series of five activities, including a grand finale suicide relay race. AKHIA Public Relations and Marketing Communications, OnPoint Communications and Fathom SEO each entered a minimum of six employee participants for the competition with OnPoint coming out on top as the victors. The agencies also contributed a $300 entry fee with all proceeds going to the Akron and Cleveland Food Banks.
“The initial idea for some sort of agency competition actually came from the folks at Fathom SEO,” said Ben Brugler, senior vice president at AKHIA. “They had issued a weight loss challenge to AKHIA and we countered with this idea of the physical challenge. It’s a nice way to get some of the Cleveland and Akron agencies together for a little fun while helping the local food banks during a time when they really need it.”
All of the activities were designed specially for this event by the staff of the Summa Wellness Institute, located in Hudson. The activities included limbo, layups, fitness Simon Says, rock wall climbing, a fitness relay and a suicide relay race. The winning agency was decided based on a point system, with the grand prize being bragging rights, of course (and a shiny trophy).
