Ben Brugler: I’ve Ben Thinking...

'...wait, I can't think! Too much information!'

Day five of the blogging about the first thing on my mind - yes, I know it's late, but I'm off today so cut me some slack!

So, the first thing on my mind today? Well, in light of the global headlines and March Madness there is basically too much on my mind! Recently I read an article in Newsweek about how our decision-making skills have been affected by all of the non-stop information - and not in a good way.

(And I have to say, looking at my brackets I can't disagree. Seriously, I would've been better served having my daughter pick winners based on what color uniform she likes.)

But back to the Newsweek article. If you have a minute be sure to give it a read - ironic, I know, asking you to cram more information into your brain, in a blog about too much information. My take-away, given I work in a service business, is that while we crave information - every piece we can get to make the best decision - sometimes the great equalizer is to just unplug and process the information you've collected.

Easier said than done. We're at the point of no-return. We can't survive without this information - we crave it. Go ahead, try to turn it off. Try to unplug. You can't. We're addicted. (Here's proof!)

But, we can respect the information. And we can walk away; just go old school and think about how all of this information can impact our decisions. Who knows? Maybe we'll be able to predict when a legacy school like Louisville will tank in the first round. (I'm not bitter.)
