'...about how much fun April is'I don’t know about you, but taxes aside I am having a fun April. If you’re a Cleveland Indians fan how can you not be? And I’d be willing to bet, if you asked them, other Cleveland sports fans would agree with me when I say rooting for the Indians in April is a hell of a lot more fun than rooting for the Cavaliers in April, as we experienced the last few years.
Thinking back, the last three Aprils weren’t that fun at all. Each year the Cavaliers delivered a high seed, lots of hype and tons of promise – as well as the annual discussion around LeBron’s desire/intent to stay in Cleveland. And each year that pressure mounted, tightening up as we suffered some miserable series defeats.:
- 2008 to the Celtics, watching Paul Pierce take us apart
- 2009 to the Magic, listening Charles Barkley tell us how we were going to lose while taking cover from the Orlando’s three-point bombs
- And finally, 2010, as everything came to a head as we escaped an up-and-coming Bulls team only to be dismantled – literally – by the Celtics and Rajon Rondo.
Oh yea, it was a lot of fun watching LeBron check-out after game three – what we’d later find out was nothing more than a going away present. It was great to have months and years of speculation boil down to rumors and eventually the decision. A blast.
No, you can have that. I’ll take these Indians, who are showing more heart and more courage in three weeks than LeBron showed in seven years. I’m seeing a team play baseball. I’m seeing a coach do just that. I’m seeing a bunch of role plays, well, play their role. I’m seeing the fundamentals upheld and celebrated as keys to winning. I’m listening to fans – smart fans – appreciate all of the above as we slowly remember our true sporting love – America’s past time – baseball.
I don’t care if they keep it up. I don’t care if the national media chooses to ignore it. All I care about is being able to tune in and care about what’s happening on the field – not off it. ...........................................................................................................................................
