Keep your hands to yourself!Remember when you used to get in trouble for fighting with your brother or sister and your parents would say ‘keep your hands to yourself’? Pretty simple, right? Don’t touch your brother and you stay out of trouble?
If only we could get through life keeping that simple rule in mind - ‘keep your hands to yourself’. I feel like I’m living in a fantasy world when I look around and see the headlines. People who can’t keep their hands to themselves. Herman Cain. Jerry Sandusky/Penn State football. People who put their hands on other people – inappropriately and far too frequently (and by frequently I mean once).
But maybe I shouldn’t be so quick to beg for adherence to that rule. After all, idle hands.....snap pictures of their privates and text them to people. ‘Hey, I didn’t touch them at least!’
At what point do we collectively ask what the hell is going on that this behavior has become the norm? We’re at a point in society where we’re so outraged by....everything....why can’t we do something here? We have ribbons of every color. National days of this, national days of that. We’re ‘occupying’ Wall Street for God’s sake. Let’s do something to show that inappropriate behavior and those who allow it by ignoring it (a worst offense, in my mind) need to be accountable.
Penn State nation – you’re outraged? You’re upset with the institution that could’ve allowed this to happen? Don’t go to games. Don’t buy the gear. For years it’s been clear that if we want to hurt institutions that we need to do so where it counts — in the wallet. Let’s keep our hands to ourselves but be sure to share our opinion, that this won’t stand or be tolerated, with everyone.
