AI Round-up for 10.10.25: Sora 2 is forcing us to make some decisions

The AI Round-up: Year 3, Issue 33

Well, I think we have some decisions to make.

Only one week after it came out, the world—and our feeds—are full of slop. In a matter of only a few days we arrived at a position of needing to decide where we draw our personal lines.

  • Do you give in, watch Sora all day—accuracy, copyrights, brain rot be damned?
  • Do we recognize it for what it is—a slop machine that is designed to keep us on the hook and shrink our attention spans?
  • Is this why AI was created—to turn creating into a simple and mundane task as typing a question into Google?

We really need to think about the impact of AI/Sora in this regard because it will impact how marketers and communicators create and keep up. Will we have a choice? At what point does this become the new medium? At what point does the general public not care about what’s real and what’s not? (Check story 5 for more on this.)

Before you get into the stories: No AI Round-up next week! I’ll be at MAICON learning as much as I can. I know how I felt last year afterward—so yes, I’ll be toast when it comes to putting out content (that makes sense anyway). BUT, the week after should be a doozy.

Anyway, onto this week’s stories.

10 9 stories -- Let’s get to it.

Story 1: More on the thin line between Sora and slop. (The Artificial Intelligence Show)

From talking with an IP attorney to understanding what this means for our attention span, this week’s pod (at least the first big story if you don’t have time for the whole thing) is worth the listen.

Story 2: Mr. Beast is concerned about Sora (BBC)

Why? Because he feels AI will be just as good as creators at making content. Content that his audience will be fine consuming and scrolling. On a much different level, this is what we need to consider as it pertains to our own creative. What is our approach to how it’s used or what we’ll do if we aren’t using it?

Story 3: Mattel thinks Sora 2 will accelerate product design. (Reuters)

They’ve partnered with OpenAI to see how the new tool will impact design and development.

Story 4: Christopher Penn wants you to see this. (Christopher Penn)

Why? Because he may be one of the few talking (well, he’s kind of talking … just watch the clip) about what Sora 2 means for all jobs.

Story 5: The future of advertising is synthetic, sloppy and profitable (for big tech anyway)

This blog/POV from David Armano is well worth your time if you’re trying to understand why the human in the loop matters. Take note of how consumers will be streaming, watching and deciding what’s what in the very near future and ask yourself what it means for your campaigns now.

Story 6: Will this change the way we shop? (DigitalTrends)

When I was in college, I worked at a home improvement store. We had software that allowed you to see a 3-D image of what a deck would look like once built. You could customize it based on materials, size and more. It was mind-blowing. The year was 1998 and the future was bright.

Now you can do all of that on your phone, with clothes, thanks to Google. As you read the article, ask yourself: Are your brand and your products ready to be accessed and used in this way? Tick tock.

Story 7: Google’s been busy because its AI can now use a computer. (Shelly Palmer)

See how an agent navigates the Internet … without having to wait for API access.

Story 8: Oh yea? OpenAI says beat this. (Conor Grennan)

During its Dev Day, OpenAI announced you can now use apps within ChatGPT (assuming the app creator gives permission).

This excerpt from linked headline should give you an idea of why this is big:

Why It Matters:
Let's pretend we're planning a party (for you extroverts out there - I would never do this but I digress)

Find the right playlist (Spotify), create invites (Canva), and order food delivery (DoorDash) in one chat.

No app-switching or learning multiple interfaces.

Story 9: 10 new jobs AI will create. (ZDNET)

What the hell ZD? We’re only talking about jobs lost … not gained!!!

Ok, fine. Here you go. Let’s see what makes it. Guess you’ll have to keep reading for the next few years to see if any of these come to fruition. My money is on AI ritual designer.

This week, I’m not talking about:

  1. Moflin – the new AI powered friend, family and pet. (Computer World)
  2. 1 in 5 high schoolers has had a romantic relationship with AI. (BBC)
  3. AI could erase 100M jobs in the next 10 years. (Axios)

Thanks for reading,

Ben

As a reminder, this is a round-up of the biggest stories, often hitting multiple newsletters I receive/review. The sources are many … which I’m happy to read on your behalf. Let me know if there’s one you’d like me to track or have questions about a topic you’re not seeing here.
