The AI Round-up: Year 4, Issue 15
AI hits a mass tipping point: it is starting to work more closely with the government, account for a bulk of our economic growth and…be less transparent. How big can this get?
We’ve been preparing for this phase over the last few years. But what does it mean? Well, a few things:
Let’s get to it.
12ish stories – Here we go.
Story 1: The White House wants Anthropic back. (Axios)
--but—
Story 2: But doesn’t feel Anthropic should go ahead with Mythos. (WSJ)
Maybe it’s because they want to assess it first?
Or maybe they don’t want anyone else to have ‘their preciousssss…’
Story 3: Want a Mac Mini? Too bad. It’s the must-have computer if you want an AI agent. (MacRumors)
Story 4: Hershey spends $2B on AI agents for a marketing overhaul. (AdWeek)
But how many Mac Minis did they buy?
I’ve read this article twice, am in marketing and still don’t understand what they’re actually trying to do here. Smells like desperation to me. Chocolate desperation. But desperation nonetheless.
Story 5: AI should be doing a lot more for you than it is.
Time to reset your expectations.
Two stories:
Story 6: Spotify adds a badge to verify an artist is human. (Spotify)
Oh, we’re here now?
Story 7: “Hey, it’s Taylor”™ (CBS News)
Taylor Swift trademarks her voice and likeness because, you know, AI.
Will Spotify give her a human badge?
So…seems like we’re here now, huh?
Story 8: Be careful with this one… This news outlet is run by AI reporters. (Mashable)
Yep. And they may email you asking for a comment on your story.
We’re so here, now.
Story 9: For my HR friends and readers—AI is now interviewing job applicants. (The Guardian)
It’s not going well. In fact, some are saying it’s awkward, humiliating and forcing them to talk in bullets and ways they never would in real life.
So, do we have to learn to speak AI now? Or will the AI improve? (My money is on the latter.)
Are you in HR? Would you be willing to weigh in on what’s going on in your world? Would love your take! Email me!
Story 10: AI is better at doctoring than doctors. At least in the ER. Don’t tell Dr. Robby. (Harvard Magazine)

Story 11: Ben gets on a soapbox. (LinkedIn)
The reason I connected these two is because I’m so torn. I’m all for any acceleration in the medical field. The more we can do to improve our quality of life, improve treatments and give people a chance to fight, the better.
But is it coming at the cost of losing humans (or a human touch) in that field? I mean, at least with doctors it isn’t like someone who was a PR pro saying ‘I always wanted to be a doctor…now I can! Thanks AI!’ But still…an ethical dilemma. I think we’ll see a lot more of these.
Story 12: Google Translate now translates and fixes your pronunciation. (Digital Trends)
¿Te gustan las películas de terror?
4 Nopes.
-Ben
As a reminder, this is a round-up of the biggest stories, often hitting multiple newsletters I receive/review. The sources are many … which I’m happy to read on your behalf. Let me know if there’s one you’d like me to track or have questions about a topic you’re not seeing here.
