Lead Consultant
April Wonsick is a strategic communications advisor with more than 20 years of experience helping organizations sharpen their market position, connect with the audiences that matter most and turn business priorities into clear, actionable communications strategies. As a lead consultant at Akhia, April works closely with clients, particularly in manufacturing and other complex industries, helping them navigate shifting markets, changing customer expectations and real business challenges.
April approaches communications through a business lens first. She helps organizations clarify what makes them relevant, understand what drives audience decisions and align marketing, PR and sales around a shared strategy. Her counsel spans brand and market positioning, integrated communications planning, reputation management, executive thought leadership, customer journey and audience strategy, sales enablement, and new product or market launches.
A central part of April’s work is identifying the insight that can move a business forward. She brings together customer perspective, competitive intelligence, market dynamics and internal priorities to determine what matters most and where an organization has an opportunity to lead. From there, she works with client and agency teams to translate that insight into messaging, programs and tools that work across channels and throughout the customer experience.
Before beginning her agency career, April worked as a television reporter, producer and anchor. That experience continues to shape how she works today: asking the right questions, getting to the heart of complicated issues quickly and turning complex information into stories people can understand and act on. It also informs her approach to media strategy, executive counsel and issues management, where clarity and a deep understanding of the audience are essential.
April builds long-term client relationships by becoming genuinely invested in the businesses she supports. Clients and colleagues rely on her to see around corners, push back constructively and connect big-picture strategy to what a team can realistically execute. She believes the best advisors do more than deliver communications. They bring perspective, create alignment and help clients make better decisions with greater confidence.
