AI Round-up for 9.26.25: Stop the Slop!

The AI Round-up: Year 3, Issue 31

A faster than usual read this week as I am heading out to NYC to see Hamilton! We bought these tickets back in July…when the Guardians were 15.5 games out of first place. How was I supposed to know they’d make this late run?!?! Do me a favor – if you’re in NEOhio…go to the Guardians games this weekend if you can and show appreciation for this historical team!

Few more weeks until MAICON 2025 is here. And if you missed this week’s AI Show, Paul dropped nine out of the 10 speakers on the main stage. We are in for a treat!

Everything you need is right here. Register. Learn. Take the knowledge back. If you go, let me know so we can compare notes!

Also, you can use the AKHIA200 promo for $200 off your registration fee! Thank you to Marketing AI Institute for making that possible. If you go…let me know! See you there!

Anyway, onto this week’s stories.

10 stories -- Let’s get to it.

Story 1: Back to school. Back to ChatGPT as daily tokens hit 78B.

Given the fact nearly 6% of students vape, I really wanted to make a connection between token and toking….but there’s no time! (Tech Radar)

Story 2: Stop the slop. (HBR)

Ever sit in a meeting or read a LinkedIn post where what’s being said just doesn’t make any sense? Well turns out our tolerance for AI slop is a lot lower than our tolerance for real slop because it’s resulting in more work for us.

40% of employees surveyed claim to have received workslop in the past month…and about 15% of what they receive total can be classified as workslop.

Story 3: Maybe those who write slop can write spam? (Shelly Palmer)

SpamGPT + Dark Web does not equal good things for any of us.

Story 4: What’s next for ChatGPT? (digitaltrends)

Short answer: A lot. And it will cost ya.

Story 5: The AI economy, explained. (Paul Roetzer/The Artificial Intelligence Show)

We’re excited!

We’re worried.

But this is cool!

Ok then what?

Oh boy.

This could be cool tho!

(It’s the first big story in the 9.23 episode…worth the listen!)

Story 6: Nvidia to Nvest $100B in OpenAI (CNBC)

If you’re left wondering ‘so what?’…this is how I see it:

=OpenAI gets resources (access to chips, GPUs)

=OpenAI grows, earnings grow

=Nvidia earnings go up from its investments

OpenAI and Nvidia both make money…but will anyone else? And if you ever wondered ‘what’s the product?’…wonder no more about ‘who’s the product’ (you…me).

Story 7: Understanding the AI bubble. And why the biggest fear isn’t that it will pop. (Yahoo! Finance)

The bridge may be out! But if we go a different way we will be late to the party!

Story 8: Copilot just got a lot better thanks to my good friend…

Yep. Claude is now a Copilot extension. Guess I need to update my Copilot v. ChatGPT chart. (Microsoft)

Story 9: Alexandr Wang says your kids need to learn to AI code ASAP. (Make it)

Actually, the headline is one of those old school ‘hooks’ and reads ‘do this’…but I saved you the trouble. Read more if you want your kid to get ahead in AI!

Story 10: Not this week.

This week, I’m not talking about:

  1. The White House using xAI (WSJ)
  2. The global call for AI red lines from people we should probably listen to (The Verge)
  3. Perplexity – remember them? – has a cool tool for managing email. It will only cost you $200/month. (Windows Central)

As a reminder, this is a round-up of the biggest stories, often hitting multiple newsletters I receive/review. The sources are many … which I’m happy to read on your behalf. Let me know if there’s one you’d like me to track or have questions about a topic you’re not seeing here.
