Insight Bite: Gartner Predicts AI Will Cut More 'Rungs'

That career ladders is getting shorter and shorter.

Insight Bite: October 1, 2026.

AI may change the first job many marketers get, but it should not eliminate the first stage of learning how marketing works.

Ok, so what does that mean?

Well, Gartner predicts that by 2030, AI will allow many high-performing marketing teams to remove the traditional “bottom rungs” of the corporate ladder as foundational tasks become automated.

That creates a risk: if junior marketers no longer get the repetitions that build judgment, context and business instinct, where will the next generation of strategic marketers come from? (And don't say 'AI'.)

Gartner suggests this is a chance to redesign entry-level marketing, not write it off. Today’s marketers have to do more than execute. They have to ask better questions, evaluate AI-generated work, connect recommendations to business outcomes and understand what good looks like.

AI may take on more of the tasks. But marketers have to own the thinking.

(And honestly, hasn't it kinda always been that way?)
