The AI Round-up: Are you a laggard?

The AI Round-up: Year 4, Issue 26

Hey, good news! You aren’t a laggard!

You’re ahead. Simply by reading this.

Ok, maybe you need to do more than just read this. But by being active in the world of AI and trying to understand it, in general, you are in the category you want to be in (adopters) v. the one nobody wants to be in (laggards).

Don't blame me...I didn’t name the categories.

Let’s get to it.

Semafor says the world is being split into adopters and laggards.

This one is for the adopters. Stop focusing on “AI” strategy.

Remember sometime around 2019 when we as a business world stopped saying ‘digital’ marketing and ‘digital’ strategy…and ‘digital’ content. You get the idea.

We had hit a point where the digital part WAS the part. We are in a digital world. Well, now we’re seeing the same thing with AI. That’s what the linked article is talking about. And takes the thinking a step further by outlining four ‘planks’ to help integrate and focus your strategy.

Did you know?

Andy Crestodina – a favorite in this space – has a prompt templates library available for you.

What’s the latest EO?

Eh, everything new is old again. Wait, reverse that…everything old is new again?

Or both? Bottom line…G isn’t what you thought and S is the new G, old S.

Make sense? Of course it doesn’t. Which is why Christopher Penn is here for you to explain.

Reddit lost 86% of its ChatGPT citations in four days. No one knows why.

Search. Citations. AI. It’s all still the wild, wild west. (from State of Brand)

Pew. You’re so smart. Did AI write this for you?

Pew Research Center released a report on just how much of the Internet is written by AI. The results are worth you clicking the article. Come for the intel, stay for the awesome way in which it’s presented. Some pretty incredible findings here.

Damn you, IKEA.

Every marketer hates you now.

IKEA managed to keep their employees and use AI…we want to do that. Let me know what you come up with.”

You know what, IKEA? I think you should have to create a case study on this but design it like you do your instructions. Could you do that?

Wait. I can do that, with Claude. Hmmmmm. Stay tuned.

Damn you, AI.

Guess what? The anti-AI movement is growing. And we’re not just talking about data centers.

You can read this however you want. Me? I’m reading it as…the gap is getting wider and the adopters are fewer.

Whoa. Thanks Anthony.

My good friend and AI enthusiast, Anthony Wright, shared this link with me. The topic? How AI is recommending products, services and more…by hitting cloned versions of sites or best of listicles (where a brand ranks itself number one).

It’s time we start clicking those cited links to make sure we know ‘who’ the source really is.

Some Nopes.

  1. ChatGPT can now text as you. No, no it can’t. Nobody can match my level of text snark.
  2. HR is using public AI to prepare for hard conversations. Complete with employee names and info.
  3. OpenAI halts training on new model as it detects dark signs emerging. Sounds like something out of Lord of the Rings. Dark signs are emerging from Mordor!

Thanks for reading and supporting!

Ben

As a reminder, this is a round-up of the biggest stories, often hitting multiple newsletters I receive/review. The sources are many … which I’m happy to read on your behalf. Let me know if there’s one you’d like me to track or have questions about a topic you’re not seeing here.
